Welcome to DCIN 472 – Advanced Production - Sit-Com

My name is Jim Falkenstein and my buddy is Randy Cordray, and we have both worked on television shows in Hollywood for over 30 years.  We are new to university instruction and this SOU digital interface so if for any reason it seems that you don’t have information or don’t understand a process, feel free to contact us at falkenstj@sou.edu or rcordray510@gmail.com. It is probably our fault.

This is a production class focused on creating one scripted television episode.

We hope that you learn about the many staff and crew opportunities on a scripted television show, the process of making a scripted television show, and the various opportunities for creative input on a scripted television show. The goal is to touch on every aspect of production and leave you with an idea of what area you might like to pursue further (Or, maybe, if you might want nothing to do with television production after this course. Also fine!)

Please come to the first day of class having read the script, “Local Heroes.” This was written specifically for this class and specifically to be shot at the DMC. The finalized draft will appear here on Monday January 13th.

Also please watch this “Writing for Sit-Coms” video:

created specifically for this class. We will talk about the writing process to a degree during the first class.

Remember, this is a production class, not a writing class, or an acting class.  We will talk about writing issues and acting for television issues, but this class is about the process of creating one scripted television episode.

There will be other reference materials added to this online portal so please check in.
