This will be an introduction to the critical study of film, and will cover a wide variety of films. We will explore the design, technical, cultural, and theoretical aspects of (primarily American) cinema. A general overview of history, genres, and filmmakers will also be included. Ultimately, we hope to understand how films are constructed, how they reflect our culture, and how they affect an individual, or society. This will be accomplished by viewing (and listening), then writing about films.
