This course explores some of the lenses through which we look at and think about art by introducing major theories and critical issues influencing contemporary art and artists. It complements students’ existing knowledge of art history with theoretical tools that can help to interpret and find meanings in works new and old. Discussions, verbal and written, are a key component of the art world – for artists, museum professionals, scholars, critics, and viewers. To that end, this course nurtures our ability to understand, create, and contribute to insightful dialogue.
