This class is intended for students looking to explore how the registers of marks and gestures present in their studio practices might be realized through printmaking. Students will be familiarized with gesture based approaches in printmaking such as traditional and ‘kitchen’ lithography, pronto plate printmaking as well as trace monotyping. each uniquely allow for the sensitivity of a drawn or painterly mark to be replicated into an edition, and will be approached with accessibility in mind. As part of their course work students are encouraged to identify printmakers that use the medium in ways resonant to their respective practices. Through in class discussion and short written responses analyze methodologies present in their practice and how their visual voice might be translated in print.
