Course Objectives
This course will develop the student’s ability to see, manipulate, and discuss light in the context of theatrical design. Students will learn the beginning processes, techniques, and skills of the professional theatrical lighting designer through lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on light lab projects. They will learn to develop conceptual lighting design ideas based on the analysis and interpretation of a dramatic text, and will explore means of verbally and visually communicating those ideas. They will demonstrate a completed design through Research and a Light Lab Presentation.
