One of the values in printmaking is the medium's ability to closely replicate information into an edition for wide dissemination. As a counter this course offers a close look at value of play and possibility outside of strict iterative processes, present in the artist's proof, misregistration, failed translation or monotype. Reflecting on the practices of artists that use experimental approaches to printmaking, this course prioritizes material and process based exploration alongside in class discussions. Students will investigate print as a potential layer in multimedia explorations, look closely at alternative substrate preparations and go over a range of approaches for developing monoprints.
